🌱 1. Love for seeds since childhood

Nek Ram Sharma was born in Mandrol village of Mandi district. His father and grandfather were also farmers. In his childhood, when he used to go to the fields with his father, the variety, color and fragrance of the seeds used to mesmerize him.

    He says:

β€œI used to feel that every seed is a story β€” of life, of nature, of struggle.”

Gradually, he realized that our indigenous seeds are disappearing, and chemical and hybrid seeds are taking their place.

🚫 2. Crisis – Ending existence of seeds

In the 1990s, when the whole country was moving towards agricultural revolution and chemical farming, farmers in the villages of Himachal were also getting attracted towards hybrid seeds. Due to this:

    Traditional crops started disappearing

    Diseases and expenses started increasing

    Farmers’ self-reliance started ending

Seeing all this, Nek Ram Sharma decided – “I will not let the seeds die.”
